Some big NO's of rat feeding, and oh so much more coming to help find just what you need to have a happy rat!

These are some NEVER feed your rats kind of food.
Green potato skin and eyes—contain solanine
Raw red cabbage–antinutrient that destroys thiamin.
Green bananas—inhibits starch-digesting enzymes
Raw dry beans or peanuts—contains antinutrients that destroy vitamin A and enzymes needed to digest protein and starches, and causes red blood cells to clump
Raw bulk tofu—can contain bacteria, packaged raw tofu is safe
Wild insects—can carry internal parasites and diseases
Raw brussel sprouts–antinutrient that destroys thiamin.
Orange juice—forbidden for male rats only, d-limonene in the skin oil, which gets into the orange juice during squeezing, can cause kidney damage and kidney cancer due to a protein that only male rats have in their kidneys.  Pieces of the orange fruit are okay if you wash the orange-skin oil off of it after peeling it.
Raw sweet potato—contains compounds that form cyanide in the stomach
Chocolate contains stimulants that can cause heart failure or neurological poisoning
Licorice neurological poisoning
Rhubarb contains high levels of oxalates.
Raw artichokes inhibits protein digestion
Bleu cheese –the mold is toxic to rats.

Food to Feed With CAUTION.
Dried corn can contain high levels of fungal contaminates
Beets, Celery, Eggplant, Lettuce, Cucumber, Radishes, Spinach, Collards and Turnip Greens are high in nitrates and should be limited.
Almonds–include oxalates, which bind up calcium.
Swiss Chard–include oxalates, which bind up calcium.

Good Type Stuffs ^_~
Antibiotic properties banana, prunes/plums, garlic, tea, eggplant, raspberries, onion, mustard.
Antiviral properties cranberries, prunes/plums, strawberries, onion.
For Arthritis clove, dates, ginger, garlic.
